Grant Park was an inspiration

It is Friday, Nov. 7, and I am still coming down from the aromatic high of Election Day in Grant Park. The temperate beauty of the unseasonable weather, the calm and collected gathering of supporters, and the electricity that shot through the Chicago night sky like the Aurora Borealis.

What a moment in time. What a fortunate opportunity to see Americans come together in the sanctity of peace and unity. A cross section of humanity, the likes of which I have never seen gathered together in such perfect harmony, converging on a historic hour. A future filled with hope, with promise, with grace. I was humbled and grateful to have shared this with a widely diverse crowd who stood united.

My children will grow to hear of my experience many times over as they mature. Their children will be told by their grandmother of the night that this country changed hands, and life as previously known by so many was enlightened, and capable of being eagerly anticipated once again.

It was moment in time that I will savor and cherish - a memory to carry for several lifetimes; I am a proud American. I wish all of us could be, as well. My pride is evident in the face of every man who sees the potential for a future like nothing we've seen in our past before us courageously reflected by Barack Obama.

May God continue to bless this great nation, and all who live in it. We are the luckiest human beings on the face of this earth.
