As a nation, we need to come together

In the Nov. 16 Fence Post, some of the writers chose to vent their bitterness over the results of the presidential election.

President- elect Obama will not be sworn in until Jan. 20, but already they are predicting dire consequences during his presidency.

One writer claims that the 56 million of those who did not vote for Mr. Obama have "no intention of supporting the socialist agenda that's about to be jammed down our throats."

He states that the lack of respect shown to our current commander-in-chief has been, in his opinion, "treasonous" and that he speaks for all conservatives.

Another writer fears that Mr. Obama will takes us from capitalism to socialism, but cites no concrete examples of how that will be accomplished.

What is most chilling from this author is her assertion that the government will collapse with the new administration, but, "as for me, I am going to sit back and watch it all fall apart."

Really? Is this putting "country first?" What a tragic comment coming from an American citizen.

Perhaps she would be better served if she heeded the decent words of Sen. John McCain's honorable concession speech.

I hope, for the sake of this country, that these writer's thoughts are a distinct minority.

We succeed as a nation when we work together for the common good.

President-elect Obama reached out to all in Grant Park when he told his opponents, "I may not have your vote tonight, but I hear your voices."
