Glen Ellyn has its own take on early voting
Forget about spring.
Glen Ellyn residents can vote for their favorite municipal candidates Saturday during the Civic Betterment Party's town hall meeting.
The local organization, which has been around since 1931, slates candidates for village offices during a town hall meeting held several months before the election.
Names of candidates with the most votes will appear on the spring ballot, along with those of anyone who runs independently.
Voting will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and candidates will formally speak from 11 a.m. to noon at the civic center, 535 Duane St. in Glen Ellyn. This year, candidates also will give informal speeches at 9 a.m.
"This is very important," said Alex Demos, chairman of the Civic Betterment Party's Nominating Committee. "It's our opportunity to elect our leaders, our opportunity to honor the tradition of how we have brought our village officials forward."
Tim Armstrong, Mark Pfefferman and Jay Strayer are running for village president.
Seven residents are running for three trustee seats, including Peter Cooper, Robert Friedberg, Phillip Hartweg, Carl Henninger, Diane McGinley, Joseph Salamunovich and Chris Wilson.
Andrea Draths, the current village clerk, is running to renew her position.
The Glen Ellyn Public Library board has three available seats, and Linda Richman, Randolph Sailer and Mark Luginbill are running for office.
Candidates will be available throughout the day to meet with residents.
After the meeting, the Civic Betterment Party will be seeking people for its bylaws committee.
"We want to bring it even more in line with how we should continue and grow this process," Demos said. "The more people that come and feel represented, the more seriously this process is taken."
