Dentist gets 3 years for laundering money
A downtown Chicago dentist has been sentenced to three years and a month in federal prison for laundering money for an interstate prostitution ring.
Dr. Gary Kimmel admitted that he bought cars to provide transportation for prostitutes, using proceeds from their work.
The 59-year-old said at his sentencing hearing Thursday that he's destitute and doesn't know how he'll take care of his family.
U.S. District Judge Blanche M. Manning waived any fine, saying Kimmel is broke. She told him that a person as highly educated as he is should have had more common sense.
