Briefs: Book lunch today

Batavia's "Books Between Bites" welcomes Roger Breisch, executive director of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, to the free monthly program at noon today at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. Breisch will discuss the books "Kitchen Table Wisdom" and "My Grandfather's Blessings" by Rachel Naomi Remen. Football changes fundraiser

Due to the Geneva High School football game Friday night, the Geneva Academic Foundation has moved up the time of its Crate and Barrel fundraiser at the store in Geneva Commons by a half-hour. There will be a raffle at 6:15 p.m. for three reserved tickets in Section D for the game. The event starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, and each ticket gets a $25 Crate and Barrel gift card. Get Cougars tickets

Kane County Cougars 2009 single-game tickets go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Elfstrom Stadium, Cherry Lane and Kirk Road, Geneva. A free buffet breakfast will be available starting at 8 a.m. Ozzie the Cougar mascot will be there. Pre-orders for tickets bought via phone (630-232-8811) or the Web site kccougars.com will be processed Monday.

Library discusses 'Our Lady'

Aurora Public Library will sponsor a Spanish-language presentation, "Our Lady of Guadalupe: More than a Religious Symbol" at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Main Library, 1 E. Benton St. Miguel Arias, theologian and author of the book "Saints of the Americas" will talk about the Lady of Guadalupe's apparition in Mexico, and Aztec and Christian beliefs and symbols to explain how her image has become not just a religious symbol, but representative of a whole nation's identity. Firewood sale in Geneva

The Geneva Beautification Committee is selling firewood by the bundle or by the face cord. The firewood sale raises money to buy flowers for downtown Geneva gardens the group maintains. Bundles are $5, and are available at the Geneva City Hall parking lot near the utility bill payment box (between City Hall and Viking Office Supply.) A face cord can also be delivered to your home. Cost is $90 for the wood and $30 for the delivery fee. Stacking is an additional $20. Call Jim Gehring at (630) 208-9453.
