Support candidates with transparency
We live in a great community and we have many public servants that are earnestly working to improve Glen Ellyn. However, this spring we became involved in the effort to save Ackerman Woods and found a village board detached from the needs and will of our residents. Ackerman Woods was not just about loss of trees and other green concerns. It was about a process of decision-making based on the personal preferences of our elected officials instead of one driven by facts. It was about the failure of our elected officials to listen when 1,200 Glen Ellyn residents expressed their disagreement. We now have a chance to prevent this from happening again. Residents who attempt to participate in the democratic process must not be dismissed as a "vocal minority." We need elected officials who act in the long-term best interests of the whole community. We need to promote progress that preserves the character of our community and not just development for its own sake. We need balance for concerns such as land use, conservation, tax revenue, property rights and Glen Ellyn's charm. Governing from a narrow point of view that does not consider all aspects of our community is a disservice to our village. With these goals in mind, we urge you to support three candidates in the upcoming Civic Betterment Party election: Mark Pfefferman for village president, Chris Wilson for village trustee, and Peter Cooper for trustee. All three are running from a genuine desire to serve our community, and strongly support community participation and transparency in government. Most importantly, they have a shared vision for the future of Glen Ellyn that will help guide our community forward.
