Jacobs varsity girls host clinic
The Boys and Girls Club of Elgin attended a special basketball clinic hosted by the Jacobs varsity girl's basketball team Nov. 15. Basic basketball skills were taught, competitive relays, as well as scrimmage games being played in the Perry elementary school gym.
The Boys and Girls Club serves more than 1,200 children from first through 12th grades in an after school program targeted at constructive activity said Tom Mammoser, president of the local group. "More people get into trouble between 3 and 6 p.m. than any other time." Mammoser emphasized the club has had many tangible results including at least one University of Illinois law student who owes his life to getting off the street and into this program. The student confided to Mammoser that, " If he didn't have a Boys and Girls Club to go to, he didn't know if he would be alive today."
The girl's basketball team begins their season Wednesday, Nov. 19 night at the Dundee Crown tournament vs. St. Viator. The Golden Eagles return eight players from last year's squad and are eager to defend their Regional title. They invite the public to attend.
