Gas station robbed at gunpoint in Palatine

A man armed with a handgun robbed a Citgo gas station at 802 W. Palatine Road in Palatine around 8:15 p.m. Monday, police said.

The male clerk told police a man wearing a black nylon stocking over his face pointed a gun at him and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. The robber wore a red-hooded sweatshirt and was described as approximately 5 feet 8 inches with a stocky build, police said.

A canine unit search of the area came up empty. Police are looking at surveillance video.

It's Palatine's second armed robbery in less than a week. The Clark gas station located one mile east of the Citgo station was robbed Nov. 12 by a man wearing a nylon stocking mask. It wasn't immediately clear if police think the cases could be related.
