Briefs: Football playoff tickets

Tickets for Friday's Class 7A semifinal football game between Geneva and Crystal Lake South high schools will be available for Geneva students during lunch hours today and Thursday at the school, 416 McKinley Ave. General admission tickets will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Cost is $6. Gates open at 6 p.m. Friday. Parents of varsity players, sophomore and varsity cheerleaders, varsity dance and band members who are performing can purchase tickets by sending in a request and money with their student for purchase during lunch hours today and Thursday. Ticket requests are limited to eight per person or family.

Book lunch Thursday

Batavia's "Books Between Bites" welcomes Roger Breisch, executive director of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, to the free monthly program at noon on Thursday at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. Breisch will discuss the books "Kitchen Table Wisdom" and "My Grandfather's Blessings" by Rachel Naomi Remen. Bring your lunch, or order one from the 10 South Coffee House, located in the library, for pickup before the program. Call (630) 879-4777.

Football changes fundraiser

Due to the Geneva High School football game Friday night, the Geneva Academic Foundation has moved up the time of its Crate and Barrel fundraiser at the store in Geneva Commons by a half-hour. There will be a raffle at 6:15 p.m. for three reserved tickets in Section D for the game. The shopping event starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, and each ticket gets a $25 Crate and Barrel gift card. To purchase tickets to the fundraiser, visit genevaretrak.net.

Enjoy fish fry

The Fox River-Geneva American Legion Post 75 has a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the post, Second and James streets, Geneva. The dinners will continue on the third Friday of every month. Choices include fried cod and shrimp, fried chicken, french fries, coleslaw and a changing variety of side dishes. Dinner prices start at $7.50, and a cash bar is available.

Win a Corvette

The Rotary Club of Batavia will raffle off a 2009 Chevrolet Corvette (or $40,000) and seven cash prizes at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $100, with only 800 to be sold.
