NIU's Harnish leads way in win over Kent State

KENT, Ohio - Chandler Harnish threw 2 touchdowns passes and ran for 2 more TDs as Northern Illinois rolled to a 42-14 Mid-American Conference victory over Kent State on Tuesday night.

Craig Rusch also scored for NIU (6-5, 5-3), pulling the Huskies to a 21-point lead by recovering a fumble for 60 yards with about eight minutes left in the third quarter. Chad Spann added a 26-yard run late in the third quarter to give the Huskies a 35-14 lead.

The Huskies took a 14-0 lead with Harnish's 2-yard pass to Reed Cunningham in the first quarter and his 3-yard run in the second. His 31-yard run in the third made it 21-7 and a 17-yard pass to Matt Simon ended the scoring with about 9 minutes left.

Harnish rushed for 117 yards and passed for 173. NIU had 397 offensive yards to Kent's 253 as well as 4 sacks.

Kent State fell to 3-8, 2-5 in the MAC.
