Wallaby found dead at Illinois zoo

BLOOMINGTON _ Officials at a central Illinois zoo are investigating the death of a male Tammar wallaby.

The marsupial's body was found in an outdoor pen at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington over the weekend and had been stripped of its internal organs and rib cage.

Another wallaby in the same enclosure was also injured.

The zoo's director John Tobias says no animal tracks were found in the animals' enclosure.

The wallaby had arrived three months ago from the Los Angeles Zoo. It weighed less than 12 pounds.

Tammar wallabies are native to Australia.
