Man charged with stabbing Carpentersville woman in back

A Sauk Village man has been charged with attempted murder after a disagreement in which a 22-year-old Carpentersville woman was stabbed in the back Friday evening with a small kitchen knife during an argument.

The woman was able to call police and identify her attacker, who fled, according to police.

Jonathan E. Houston, 23, of 2917 Peach Tree Ave., Sauk Village, was arrested at his home Saturday morning and charged in court Sunday with attempted murder and aggravated battery, police said.

A few minutes after 8 p.m. Friday, the woman called police from Carpentersville's Fox View Apartments saying a man had beaten her, tried to kill her with a knife and then run off.

She gave police her attacker's name before she was taken by paramedics to the hospital, police said.

Carpentersville police said she was still hospitalized Monday in good condition. They hoped to talk to her more about the stabbing because no motive has been established for it yet.

Houston's bond was set at 10 percent of $500,000 and he remained in the Kane County jail Monday evening.

He is scheduled to appear before Judge Grant Wegner at the Kane County Judicial Center on Nov. 21.
