False alarm at Des Plaines bank
A security alarm at a recently robbed Des Plaines bank was activated after an employee improperly locked its doors Saturday, police said.
Des Plaines police responded to an alarm at the Citicorp office at 1525 Ellinwood Ave. around 2:20 p.m. Saturday and found the doors open. Police blocked off the area and searched with the help of the K-9 unit before learning that an employee did not latch one of the locks correctly when closing the bank for the day.
The alarm sounded when a customer attempted to walk into the bank, police said. Police still are looking for a man who showed a teller a note indicating he was robbing the bank Thursday and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is 45 to 50 years old, approximately 5 foot, 6 inches tall, and was wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket, sunglasses and a camouflage cap, police said.
Des Plaines police and the FBI are investigating.
