Sox claim 28-year-old reliever from Toronto
The Chicago White Sox claimed right-handed pitcher Kelvin Jimenez off waivers from Toronto and placed him on the club's 40-man roster on Monday.
Jimenez, 28, spent the majority of the 2008 season with Class AAA Memphis in the St. Louis organization, going 1-6 with a 2.92 ERA (17 ER/52.1 IP) and 12 saves in 46 relief appearances. He also posted a 5.63 ERA (15 ER/24.0 IP) in 15 relief outings with the Cardinals.
Jimenez, a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder, has gone 3-0 with a 6.82 ERA (50 ER/66.0 IP) in 49 relief appearances with St. Louis (2007-08) and is 31-49 with a 3.97 ERA (321 ER/728.0 IP), 22 saves and 617 strikeouts over nine minor-league seasons. He was claimed by Toronto off waivers from St. Louis on Nov. 3.
The White Sox 40-man roster now stands at 33.
