Together, we can make Illinois better

I am writing to thank the residents of the 49th District for again allowing me the opportunity to serve in Springfield. I consider it an honor to serve and am ready to continue our work.

I return to the Capitol knowing that we have our share of challenges ahead. The economy will weigh heavily on important spending decisions. I am hopeful that our newly elected leaders will leave the campaign trail and begin the process of policymaking. It's a difficult transition, but one that has to be made for Illinois to succeed.

I am also hopeful that the General Assembly will be able to work together with the governor to pass needed changes to the way Illinois conducts business. Given our current climate, we can't do everything we want. Tough decisions have to be made on priorities.

Now is the perfect time for Illinois to focus on what it does best. We are a state that produces goods for the world. With the right leadership, we can once again become a top performer in agriculture and manufacturing. We can turn the corner on job loss and return Illinois to a state where entrepreneurs thrive.

This can only be accomplished by rolling up our sleeves and working together.
