Springfield man arrested after girlfriend's death
SPRINGFIELD _ Police say a Springfield man arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend has an extensive criminal record in Cook County.
Sangamon County Sheriff's deputies arrested 32-year-old Duwon Patterson on Friday on aggravated battery warrants for allegedly beating 31-year-old Tina Cathey.
Bond on the warrants was set at $1 million, and Sheriff Neil Williamson says additional charges are pending.
Shortly after the beating Wednesday morning, Cathey disappeared.
Acting on a tip, authorities found her body Friday morning in a ravine Springfield Southeast High School, but the cause of her death had not been determined as of Friday night.
Cook County Circuit Court records indicate a criminal history for Patterson, including such charges as battery, domestic battery, and aggravated assault.
