Sterling, Wolves win in shootout

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Chicago Wolves saw a 2-1 lead slip away late in the third period before recovering with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Rochester Americans at the Blue Cross Arena on Friday.

Brett Sterling scored in the shootout for Chicago, while goaltender Dan Turple (32 saves) stopped all 5 Americans shots he faced.

Junior Lessard and Grant Stevenson each scored for the Wolves (10-2-1-1), who have held opponents to 2 or fewer goals in 13 of their 15 games and boast an American Hockey League-low 1.57 goals against.

Lessard gave the Wolves a 1-0 lead at 5:35 of the first period, as Joe Motzko assisted.

With the game tied 1-1 and 12 seconds left in the second period, the Wolves' Jeff Hamilton took a shot from the slot that ricocheted off the side of Stevenson's helmet and dropped behind the goal line for a 2-1 lead.
