Start holiday shopping in Grayslake:

Grayslake Cooperative Nursery School hosts a holiday vendor fair today, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Lord of Glory Church, 607 W. Belvidere Road, Grayslake. In addition to gift ideas, the fair will feature a raffle, baked goods and food to purchase. Admission is free. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Grayslake Cooperative Nursery School.

Lindenhurst Bootkickers help fight cancer:

Members of the Lindenhurst Health and Fitness Club recently climbed 103 floors of the Sears Tower to raise $3,200 for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and support cancer research. The Bootkickers team was formed out of a boot camp class held at the club. Members include Susan Moeller, Amy Bathery, Frank Hayes, Tonia Baxter, Scott Moeller, Howard Schnitzer, Jeff Waters and John Myers. The team will accept donations until Dec. 12 at the Web site goverticalchicago.org via the team name Bootkickers.

Long Grove gears up for holidays:

Long Grove hosts a wine tasting event today, noon to 5 p.m., as a preview to the holiday season. The event will include live entertainment, demonstrations and displays throughout the downtown. Those who visit can purchase souvenir wine glasses for $10. Mangels of Long Grove will host a Thanksgiving and Christmas home decorating seminar from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Call (847) 634-3731 for more information. Thomas Swenson and Ellise Steglinski will perform at Beans and Leaves from 3 to 5 p.m., and Mary Allsop will perform on the fiddle from 2 to 5 p.m. at Viking Treasures. R.J. New lanes on 22:

The south lanes of the Route 22 bridge over the I-94 tollway will be closed starting 7 a.m. Monday. The thru lanes will be shifted to the north side of Route 22 to allow for demolition of the south lanes over the tollway. Temporary traffic signals will be installed to handle the reconfiguration. The plan is expected to remain in place until June 2009, and the project is expected to be complete by November.
