Maine beats N. Illinois 77-64
KENNESAW, Ga. _ Gerald McLemore scored 24 points and Mark Socoby added 16 more to help Maine defeat Northern Illinois 77-64 in the first round of the 100 Club Classic on Friday.
McLemore was 6-for-9 from 3-point range for the Black Bears (1-0), who shot 62 percent in the second half to hold off the Huskies (0-1). Junior Bernal also chipped in with 12 points.
Mike Dinunno led Northern Illinois with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and Sean Kowal added 12 more.
Maine's 52 percent shooting for the game, compared to Northern Illinois' 38 percent, was the difference in the game. The Black Bears outscored the Huskies 50-42 in the second half.
The Black Bears will play in the championship game of the tournament tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
