Replace Obama in Senate with Seals
The speculation about potential members President-elect Obama's administration makes for fascinating news.
However, there is one imminent appointment that should capture Illinois voters' interest and scrutiny: Obama's replacement in the U.S. Senate.
His replacement should be someone in the mold of Barack Obama: someone with political skill, strong grass roots support, wisdom that would help our country at a crucial time, and most importantly, distance from scandal-plagued and otherwise compromised Illinois politicians.
One person who deserves strong consideration is Dan Seals, who once again nearly upset one of the best-funded Republicans in the country.
Seals is an honest, well-educated man who has the real-world business acumen to assist President Obama's efforts to restore our country's economy.
Significantly, Seals has built much of his political career through grass roots efforts and is not beholden to the Illinois political elite, unlike many of the other rumored candidates.
Seals would be a fitting replacement for Obama.
Regardless of who Gov. Blagojevich selects, the process should have the transparency that the voters of Illinois deserve.
