Learn about digital TV at Dundee library

Still using rabbit ears to watch your favorite television shows?

Find out why they and other types of antennae won't work after Feb. 17, 2009, at a special program hosted by the Dundee Township Public Library on Monday, Nov. 17 that features John Kuzma, a representative of the Federal Communications Commission.

Beginning at 7 p.m. in the library's meeting room, Kuzma will describe how the nation's broadcast stations conversion to an all-digital signal in February will affect television viewers in every market in the United States.

Consumers with older TV sets having only analog broadcast tuners will need to obtain separate digital-to-analog set-top converter boxes to continue to watch over-the-air TV.

According to the FCC, analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players and similar products.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration also is administering a coupon program between Jan. 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009, that will honor requests from all U.S. households for up to two coupons, worth $40 each, to be used toward the purchase of up to two digital-to-analog converter boxes.

Information on how to obtain these coupons will also be available at this program.
