Prayer breakfast in Barrington
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 Main St. in Barrington. This service includes reading from the Bible, music, and prayers for peace in the Middle East, and it is part of an ecumenical effort in the U.S. and the world to pray daily until a just and lasting peace comes to all citizens of the region. For more information, call (847) 381-0243 or visit Web site elca.org/middleeast.
After this service, there will be a presentation by a guest speaker: "Israel and Palestine - An Inside View." Lynne Rigg is a retired Lutheran pastor from Wisconsin who will share her varied experiences as an Ecumenical Accompanier and peace presence in the West Bank for three months in the spring of 2003. During her stay, she served at the Lutheran Church of Hope and the Lutheran School, delivered Meals on Wheels, accompanied a mobile clinic to remote villages, and spent time at a refugee clinic and rehabilitation center. Her first-person accounts of life there offer a special opportunity to hear the stories of the Palestinians, as well as the many Israeli people and organizations that are defending and advocating for them.
