Man gets 33 years for killing Illinois woman
CARLINVILLE _ A judge has sentenced a man to 33 years in prison for the 2003 strangling and beating death of a 22-year-old East Gillespie woman.
Twenty-nine-year-old Anthony A. Ashby of Litchfield pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of first-degree murder in the death of Angela Lee. Ashby will also get credit for more than 500 days he has spent in the Macoupin County Jail.
Lee's boyfriend found her on July 30, 2003, in their East Gillespie home, about 50 miles northeast of St. Louis. Investigators have said they believe the couple's son, then 4, witnessed his mother's killing but was unharmed.
Over the years, investigators found the case confounding, once agreeing to a request by Lee's family to allow psychics to visit the crime scene.
