Dog shot in face with arrow recovering
KANE -- A southwestern Illinois dog shot in the face with an arrow last week is recovering.
The 7-year-old German shepherd named Sassy Mae was wounded early Nov. 5 in the Greene County village of Kane.
Authorities arrested 28-year-old Nathan Settles after Sassy Mae's owners reported that he shot the dog while the pet was chained in her own yard.
Deputies who arrested Settles at the scene found a compound bow and arrows in nearby bushes.
Settles is charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty. He's been returned to prison for a parole violation.
The dog's owners say they aren't sure why Settles would harm their dog.
