Illini add 3 guards and a forward for 2009
CHAMPAIGN -- Illinois has signed four recruits for next year, three guards from Illinois and a forward from Missouri.
The guards are D.J. Richardson from Peoria, Brandon Paul from Gurnee and Sterling native Joseph Bertrand. Forward Tyler Griffey is from Wildwood, Missouri.
Illinois coach Bruce Weber said Wednesday that the three guards can play at more than one position. Weber says the 6-9 Griffey is a versatile forward.
At 6-3, Paul is considered the 44th best recruit in the country by Rivals.com. Richardson is No. 57, while Bertrand is No. 116 and Griffey is ranked 127th.
The 6-3 Richardson is attending a Nevada prep school to work on academic issues.
Weber says the 6-5 Bertrand's best attribute is his passing.
