Conservatives will thank young voters

With the presidential election of Barack Obama and control of both houses of Congress by the Democrats, there has been some undue hand-wringing by conservatives and "talk radio" about resurrecting the Fairness Doctrine. Democratic senators will attempt to control talk radio by having the FCC or some other government oversight entity regulate the points of few being expressed by broadcasters, which would have a direct impact on the Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys of conservative dominated talk radio.

Barack Obama garnered two-thirds of the "30 and under" vote. This same bloc of voters, who enthusiastically knocked on doors, registered new voters and got out the vote is also the backbone of the Facebook-MySpace-YouTube generation. The Fairness Doctrine cannot be implemented surgically to remove conservative talk radio from the airwaves while leaving the "new media" intact. The Fairness Doctrine would fairly exorcise any media dominated by a particular point of view. Because of this "fairness" conservative talk radio has nothing to fear and they have the under 30 crowd to thank for that.
