Briefs: Fabyan signal work
The traffic signals at Fabyan Parkway and Western Avenue in Geneva will be out of service from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Traffic will be under four-way stop control while equipment is being upgraded. Veterans Day parade
The Aurora Veterans Day Parade, sponsored by Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84, will step off at 10:15 a.m. today at Benton and Water streets. The parade route will proceed north on Broadway to Downer Place and west to the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall. The Marmion Academy Flannigan Rifles, East Aurora High School NJROTC, the Chicago Highland Rifles and the Aurora Lamplighter Chorus will participate. The ceremony "Honoring All Who Served" will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the hall and conclude with a military rifle salute at 11 a.m. The GAR hall will be open for the public to view the improvements made during the current renovation project from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Oversee a library
Petition packets for running for Geneva library trustee are available at the checkout desk on the upper level of the library, 127 James St. Three 4-year terms are available in April's election. Police warn of scam
North Aurora police are warning residents of a scam purporting to raise money for anti-drug efforts in the village. Police said the department is "not soliciting funds from our residents or businesses for any reason." Anyone contacted about donating money to local anti-drug programs is asked to call (630) 897-8705.
Volunteer awards coming up
Aurora is accepting nominations for the city's Community Volunteer Awards through Friday. Nonprofit groups, churches, schools and service clubs in Aurora are asked to submit nominations for their top three volunteers. All nominees will be recognized and one will be named "Aurora's Volunteer of the Year" at a reception with Mayor Thomas Weisner at 6 p.m. Dec. 4. Nomination forms are available at the city's Web site at aurora-il.org or call (630) 844-4731.
