Renowned priest in critical condition
The Rev. Andrew Greeley was in critical condition Saturday night after a Friday afternoon fall, hospital officials said.
At about 3:20 p.m. Friday, Rosemont police responded to a report of a "man down" at the city's CTA station, 5701 N. River Road.
Greeley, an 80-year-old best-selling novelist, was treated by Rosemont paramedics on the scene and transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said.
Witnesses reported the driver of the Rosemont taxi had just dropped Greeley off at the Blue Line station, when a portion of Greeley's coat got caught on the door of the cab as he closed it after exiting, police said. When the cab began to move, Greeley fell to the ground, police said.
Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Media Relations Manager Colette Urban said Greeley was in critical condition Saturday night, but couldn't provide specific details about injuries due to HIPAA laws.
Rosemont Police are still investigating the incident.
Greeley is a Catholic priest, columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times and the author of more than 50 best-selling novels and more than 100 works of nonfiction.
