Police shootings -- 1 fatal -- under investigation

Chicago's Independent Police Review Authority is investigating two separate shootings of men by police on the city's South Side -- one of which was fatal.

Authority spokesman Mark Payne says an armed man confronted an officer in the Bronzeville neighborhood about 8:40 p.m. Saturday and the officer shot him fatally. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Payne says that in the second incident, an officer shot and wounded a man early Sunday morning in the Woodlawn neighborhood. That man was taken to a local hospital.
