Turple, Wolves beat Providence 4-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Chicago Wolves got on the scoreboard 3:02 into the game and never looked back as they defeated the Providence Bruins 4-1 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday Night.

Wolves goaltender Dan Turple turned aside 35 shots in his second start of the season to help extend the Wolves winning streak to three games. Forwards Mike Hoffman and Grant Stevenson, and defensemen Scott Lehman and Jamie Rivers each registered a goal for Chicago.

Hoffman's first goal as a member of the Wolves put Chicago (8-2-1-1) on the board first. Left wing Jordan LaVallee worked the puck along the boards behind the net and passed it out to Hoffman at the far circle, who fired a shot underneath the pads of Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask at 3:02 of the opening frame.

Lehman made the Wolves lead 2-0 while shorthanded at 16:08 of the second stanza. Center Matt Anderson's initial shot was stopped by Rask, but he gave up a big rebound and Lehman walked into the slot, and snapped a shot past Rask.

Rivers extended the Wolves lead to three when he potted his second goal of the season at 1:01 of the third period. After serving a penalty, Rivers broke out of the box and took a length of the ice pass from Joey Crabb and deked Rask and pushed the puck into the open net on his backhand.

Stevenson stuffed home a rebound past Rask at 2:34 of the third period to give the Wolves a 4-0 advantage. Rask (5-3-0) stopped 21 of 25 shots in the loss.

Providence (6-3-1-0) broke Turple's (2-0-0) shutout bid on the power-play at 4:43 of the final frame when right wing Bryon Bitz skated in the slot and redirected a pass in between the post and Turple.

The Wolves will play their second game of a season-high six game road trip against the Manchester Monarchs on Sun., Nov. 9 at the Verizon Wireless Center at 3 p.m.
