Accident cleanup should be faster

Re: Your news article on the accident Oct. 31 at Route 47 and Jane Adams Tollway between a Ford pickup and IDOT truck and another truck. It's very sad that one person was killed and little child is, I suspect, seriously injured.

I do, however, object to the amount of time spent to clean up the accident and get traffic moving again. I fail to see any reason for it to take seven hours to accomplish clearing the accident. The standard practice is to inundate the area with emergency vehicles and personnel while the poor motorist must figure out what's going on and how to avoid the situation. Police will direct the motorist away from the accident while failing to aid the motorist in detouring around the scene.

This is not the first time this indifference to motoring public has taken place within our community. We had the auto/truck accident at Route 47 and Del Webb Boulevard and resulted in deaths that shut down northbound 47 for a significant length of time. We had the power line break at 47 and Kreutzer Road. And we had the tanker rollover on the Jane Adams Tollway by Route 47. Both resulting in substantial shutdown of major arteries of commerce.

I think it's time that someone instills upon the emergency responders the sense of urgency.
