Illinois gets almost $39 mil in federal flood aid

Officials say more than 16,000 families, individuals and businesses have been approved for nearly $39 million in federal aid following September flooding and storms in northeastern Illinois.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Friday that more than $31 million went to temporary housing and home repairs.

FEMA officials approved $3.4 million for medical expenses, transportation or replacing lost personal property. And the U.S. Small Business Administration approved almost $4 million in disaster loans.

Seven northeastern Illinois counties were declared federal disaster areas after the heavy rains. They include Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, LaSalle and Will. On Oct. 31, Woodford County was added to the declaration.

Here is the breakdown by county, including the number of households approved and the amount approved:

COOK: 15,113 households, $30,494,328

DEKALB: 107 households, $335,671

DUPAGE: 550 households, $1,546,901

GRUNDY: 56 households, $203,846

KANE: 240 households, $670,518

LASALLE: 126 households, $738,670

WILL: 366 households, $678,075

WOODFORD: 23 households, $68,011
