Father acquitted, son convicted in Aurora murder

A suburban Chicago judge has acquitted a former gang leader in a 1990 murder, but he convicted the man's son.

Kane County Judge Grant Wegner said Friday that prosecutors didn't prove their case against 57-year-old Angel "Doc" Luciano of Aurora. But Wegner convicted 35-year-old Michael Luciano of Arizona.

The former Latin Kings were charged with organizing the Halloween 1990 murder of Albert Gonzalez, a rival gang leader.

Both are already serving time for another murder conviction. Michael Luciano faces a mandatory life sentence for the second conviction. His father is serving a 38-year sentence.

Their arrests were part of a sweep targeting cold case gang-related killings in Aurora.
