Buffalo Grove Park District to hold annual Veterans Day celebration
The Buffalo Grove Park District's dedication to honoring its veterans returns with a celebration this Tuesday.
The district opened Veterans Park last year, with memorials for all five branches of the military, and it holds the annual ceremony to pay dues to those who have served.
"Both our board of commissioners and staff feel strongly about Veterans Day and everything that our veterans do for us," said Mike Terson, spokesman for the park district. "The new development of Veterans Park last year and this event we do annually is just a small way we can show our appreciation for everything we're able to enjoy in Buffalo Grove because of our veterans."
The celebration will begin with refreshments from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at Buffalo Grove High School, 1100 W. Dundee Road.
The program will start at 1:30 p.m. and include singer Heather Braoudakis, who will return to sing patriotic songs.
The afternoon will also include the presentation of colors by Marine Air Control Group 48 from Great Lakes, speeches, a Service Flag Ceremony by the Champion Eagles Color Guard Post #208 American Legion in Arlington Heights and music by the Brass Quintet from the U.S. Navy Band at Great Lakes.
Terson said people approach him throughout the year to thank the park district for its events honoring veterans.
"That's a nice feeling to be a part of an organization that does that," he said.
