Briefs: Sex offender charged

A registered sex offender was arrested in St. Charles after he failed to tell authorities he lost his job, police said Friday. Harry B. Halford, 30, of 1112 Dean St. Unit 2, was pulled over for speeding Wednesday and told a police officer on the scene he was unemployed. Investigators later learned Halford had been unemployed since August, but had not notified authorities as registered sex offenders are required to do by law, according to a news release. Halford surrendered to police Thursday and was charged with felony failure to register sex offender employment.

'The Boys' at Batavia

The dramatic comedy, "The Boys Next Door," will be performed at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Batavia High School cafeteria. The play is a story about four mentally challenged men who live together in a group home and the social worker who works with them. "It's a home run of a play," director Joshua Casburn said. Fabyan signal work

The traffic signals at Fabyan Parkway and Western Avenue in Geneva will be out of service from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. Traffic will be under four-way stop control while equipment is being upgraded. Police warn of scam

North Aurora police this week are warning residents of a scam purporting to raise money for anti-drug efforts in the village. Police said the department is "not soliciting funds from our residents or businesses for any reason." Anyone contacted about donating money to local anti-drug programs is asked to call (630) 897-8705.
