Why not drill for oil here in America?

According to George K. in his Oct. 18 Fence Post article, he is suggesting that the government implement a federal gasoline tax of 25 cents per gallon per year to reach $2.50 per year in 10 years.

The proof of global warming being caused by auto emissions has not been verified, so why not continue to drill for oil in America?

We have learned that there is more oil under the land in western Montana and eastern North Dakota that will meet our needs for years to come. Combined with the oil and natural gas available in Alaska, we could overcome our need for foreign oil in the foreseeable future.

Alternative means of power like nuclear, wind and solar may help reduce some dependence on oil, but is in no way able to replace the need of the American automobile industry.

We are very comfortable and proud of the automobiles we drive today and do not want kiddie-cars to replace our current mode of personal transportation.
