Make Breathalyzers mandatory in cars

A message about I am writing this in regards to the recent Daily Herald titled "Memory, message" on Oct. 21.

This message is not only to the editor but to all the citizens of the U.S. Drinking and driving is not only outlawed, but it changes your life and everyone else's lives on the road.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving estimates 13,000 people die in alcohol-related traffic crashes. This is intolerable. We are so focused on our people dying in foreign nations, but we don't look at the statistics in people dying in our own nation.

I propose that cars should add a new addition. Automobiles should have a Breathalyzer that you breathe into before you start your car. If you have any alcohol in your system, your car won't start.

Also, I propose that DUI arrest charges should be altered. If it is your first time getting arrested you should have your license taken away for one year. If you get arrested more than once for driving under the influence, you should have your license taken away for good.

This should have Americans think twice on whether they should drive under the influence.

Why should we let innocent young people die because someone else can't follow the law? I hope this message changes people's opinion on drinking and driving.
