Film festival to roll in Geneva today

Did you know you can see a new Faye Dunaway feature film in Geneva today?

Dunaway, an Oscar winner, is in "Say It In Russian," which is being shown during the second annual Geneva Film Festival.

You can also see actor Ben Vereen and actor/writer Tim Kazurinsky in the comedy "Tapioca," another independent film.

Film screenings begin at 11 a.m., and $10 gets you in to all of them. Films will be shown at Geneva City Hall (22 S. First St.), Geneva Public Library (127 James St.), Geneva History Center (113 S. Third St.), Old Towne Pub (201 W. State St.) and One Fine Art (121 S. Third).

"Say It In Russian" is showing at 12:25 and 3:15 p.m. at the library.

"Tapioca" is at 3:40 p.m. at Old Towne Pub.

Films were judged by a panel of entertainment professionals. And you can vote for a People's Choice Award. All awards will be handed out at a 6 p.m. reception in the Fagan Building at 514 W. State St.

Besides seeing films, you can learn how to make them at workshops Saturday morning at Riverside Receptions and Conference Center, 35 N. River Lane. Admission is $10.

At 8 a.m., choices are makeup application or cinematography.

At 9 a.m., learn about story-writing structure, editing with "Final Cut" software, or producing a documentary.

At 10 a.m., learn about sitcom writing, or attend Gloria Calderon Kellett's "The Business of Being a Hollywood Writer."

And at 11 a.m., learn about marketing screenplays, casting a film or "The Indie Film: From Script to Screen."

The festival is organized by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission.
