Ex-Obama pastor: Media exploited him
MILFORD, Conn. -- The Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr. is criticizing the media's coverage of a controversy that caused President-elect Barack Obama to distance himself from his pastor during the presidential campaign.
Wright spoke last night (Thursday) to about 200 people at a Milford, Connecticut, church during a forum about race and religion.
Wright accused the media of taking out of context videos that showed him cursing the government and accusing it of conspiring against blacks from the pulpit of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ where Obama had worshipped for 20 years.
Obama eventually severed ties with Wright, who is now retired.
Wright says the quotes were taken out of context. He says he was trying to describe the anger that people felt following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
