Bus carrying inmates crashes in L.A. area; 16 hurt
EL MONTE, Calif. _ Authorities say 16 people are slightly injured after a bus carrying prison inmates crashed on a freeway near Los Angeles.
California Highway Patrol Officer Luis Mendoza says the bus hit a guardrail on Interstate 10 in El Monte on Thursday afternoon.
Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Frank Garrido says 14 inmates and two deputies complained of back and neck pain. Eleven were taken to hospitals for examination.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
