At least one injured in Antioch accident

One man suffered severe injuries early Friday morning in a one-car accident on Route 173 in Antioch, fire officials said.

Chris Leinhardt, public information officer for the Antioch Fire Protection District, said the man was traveling west on Route 173, about a half-mile west of Route 59, when his car swerved off the south side of the roadway and down a steep embankment near Sequoit Harbor.

The car came to rest against a large oak tree, pinning the victim inside. Leinhardt said Antioch fire crews extracted the man from the vehicle, then transported him via Flight for Life medical helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. No information was released on the victim's identity or his official condition.

Leinhardt said officials believe the victim was on his way to work at the time, but are investigating to determine why he suddenly swerved off the road.
