Police: Woman dies day after vehicle hit by train
GRANITE CITY -- A southwestern Illinois woman whose vehicle was hit by a train has died.
Authorities in Granite City say 59-year-old Elizabeth King died Wednesday at a St. Louis-area hospital, a day after the accident.
Police Maj. Jeff Connor says witnesses told police that King was pulling out of a gas station near a railroad crossing Tuesday when a train hit her vehicle and dragged it about 400 yards.
Connor says the accident scene is a site of a planned overpass that will elevate the tracks, out of the way of road traffic.
