Pace sets workshop set for disabled riders

Pace will hold an open house today for low-income people with disabilities who want to enroll in the state's new free rides program.

The seminar will guide people through the application process to obtain a permit to take Pace, Metra and Chicago Transit Authority buses and trains without paying.

Applicants must belong to the Illinois Circuit Breaker program to be eligible for free rides.

The workshop runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Community Alternatives Unlimited, 8765 W. Higgins, Chicago.

It takes about three to four weeks to process permits. To qualify for Circuit Breaker, an individual must make $22,218 or less a year, couples must earn $29,480 or less and households must make $36,740 or less.
