Morgenthaler concedes to Roskam

Democrat Jill Morgenthaler congratulated Republican U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam Wednesday on his election victory in the 6th Congressional District.

Roskam, a Wheaton attorney, garnered 146,708 votes (58 percent) compared to Morgenthaler's 107,945.

"I think the campaign team and I did all we could with the resources we had. We were definitely the underdogs," said Morgenthaler, a retired U.S. Army Reserve colonel from Des Plaines.

The Morgenthaler camp held off conceding Tuesday night because turnout numbers didn't meet their estimates, campaign official Kitty Kurth said.

Roskam's first re-election bid after winning the seat held by former Congressman Henry Hyde gave him a far wider margin of victory than his 2006 campaign against Iraq veteran Tammy Duckworth, now director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.
