Arlington Heights bank robbery fails

The FBI and Arlington Heights police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that took place at an Arlington Heights bank Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Arlington Heights police got a report of an attempted armed robbery at Ben Franklin Bank, 830 E. Kensington Road, Cmdr. Michael Miljan said.

The offender was described as a male adult about 5-foot-2. Miljan said the man displayed a hand gun.

"He fled the bank without taking any money," Miljan said. "His intent was a robbery, but whatever caused him not to carry it out only he knows."

There were no injuries, he said.

Officials were still checking the area late Wednesday night, but the offender hadn't been located.

"The area was checked and he was not located," Miljan said. "The entire matter is under investigation by the FBI."
