Waller wins 5th term as Lake state's attorney
It appears Republican Michael Waller has earned his fifth term as Lake County state's attorney since being appointed to the post in 1991.
With all precincts tallied but some early and absentee still to be counted, unofficial results show Waller with 130,462 votes to Democratic challenger Michael Jacobs' 125,338 votes.
Waller, of Waukegan, stressed his leadership in creating the Children's Advocacy Center, a cybercrimes prosecution unit and his sponsorship of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
He was opposed by Jacobs, of Gurnee, a Cook County assistant state's attorney making his second bid to unseat Waller.
Jacobs had said Waller sometimes failed to seek tough enough sentences for child sex offenders and said his child support collection unit was too aggressive in pursuit of nonpaying parents.
