Leafblad unseated from Lake County board
Long-term Lake County Board incumbent Larry Leafblad was ousted Tuesday as voters opted for new representation in the Grayslake area.
Democrat Melinda Bush of appeared to have defeated Leafblad, who has served on the board for 16 of the last 18 years. Bush, 52, of Grayslake, led Leafblad 6,445 to 5,057 with all 22 precincts reporting, according to unofficial totals.
The vote totals included early voting but not absentee or provisional ballots.
During the campaign, Bush vowed to do something about "out-of-control property taxes" and was critical of Leafblad as a county board member for not considering a tax assessment cap.
And although Leafblad, 66, also of Grayslake, claimed that nearly a third of his support in past general elections came from Democrats, that support apparently didn't arrive this time.
The district encompasses Third Lake and portions of Grayslake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake, Round Lake Park and Hainesville.
