DuPage recorder wins reelection

Voters tapped an experienced incumbent to continue his work as DuPage County recorder.

With 730 of the 732 precincts unofficially reporting, Republican Fred Bucholz won a second 4-year term with nearly 55 percent of the vote against Democrat David Meek.

Meek said he ran to give voters an option in DuPage County, long a GOP stronghold. The 62-year-old Westmont man emphasized his considerable corporate experience.

Bucholz, 53, of Wheaton argued his tenure serving 24 years in the office - 20 of which as its chief deputy - was critical. He has overseen the automation of 7.6 million records onto the Internet, set up safeguards to protect identity and property while keeping spending under budget.
