Chapa LaVia gets fourth term in Illinois House
Aurora Democrat Linda Chapa LaVia held on to her 83rd District state representative seat with overwhelming support Tuesday.
She faced Republican Joan Solms. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Chapa LaVia received 75 percent of the vote compared to Solms' 25 percent.
Solms had called Chapa LaVia a socialist, and herself a conservative who opposes abortion, promoted Second Amendment rights and advocates "more responsibility on the individual and the parents."
Chapa LaVia, an Aurora real estate agent, opposes state gambling expansion and wants to see existing casinos that are fined for infractions give money back to the community.
Solms, a retired lobbyist, opposes any expansion of gambling licenses.
It will be Chapa LaVia's fourth term.
