Challenger Hewitt wins Lake board seat
Democratic challenger Diane Hewitt will take over Republican incumbent Randall E. Whitmore's seat on the Lake County Board representing District 2.
Hewitt was ahead of Whitmore and Independent candidate Tyler S. Crittenden with ballots in all 28 precincts counted, results showed Hewitt with 7,609 votes, Whitmore with 6,075 and Crittenden with 768 votes.
Hewitt had campaigned to protect open space, wetlands and forest preserves and develop and implement smart-controlled growth policies.
Whitmore, 55, of Wadsworth, campaigned as a financial watchdog and an advocate for taxpayers.
